Unsettled Location Manager: Medellín

Unsettled leads coworking retreats for today’s remote workforce. A typical retreat has 20-25 participants who come from all over the world to live and work in a destination hosted and managed by Unsettled. Most of our retreats last one month, and Unsettled arranges and manages the operations and logistics that these clients need, including accommodations, coworking space, events and workshops, access to local support/knowledge/connections, local SIM cards, local experiences, and much more.
Unsettled has two core staff in each location: 1 Experience Leader and 1 Location Manager. The company is searching for a Location Manager in Medellín.
The Location Manager’s primary responsibilities include:•Providing support to Unsettled’s Experience Leader who will run and facilitate the month•Plan, organize, and manage several events and logistics each month•Support our customers in solving problems and accessing local knowledge throughout the monthThe Location Manager reports directly to our Experience Leader in Medellín. The Experience Leader is the retreat’s facilitator who is responsible for the overall experience, works closely with our customers, and defines the overall structure and plan for the month during planning calls leading up to the the retreat.
THE CANDIDATEThe candidate will be a main point of contact for our clients when they are in Medellín, assisting them in solving problems locally and accessing local information, places, neighborhoods, events, etc. We are searching for someone who:
•Thinks quickly on their feet: Quick problem-solving is key because this position requires resourcefulness under pressure from external issues that may come up for our clients and we must handle them professionally and quickly.•Communicates efficiently and responsibly: Efficient communications is a major part of this position. The candidate will be in contact with the Experience Leader on a consistent basis. He or she will also be in contact with Unsettled members around the clock, and they will rely on the Location Manager to be super responsive to their needs.•Is incredibly organized: Organization is key in order to contribute and function well within Unsettled’s team. Our team delegates responsibility equally and we rely and trust each other to get work done in an organized and timely fashion so that all members of the team can work with each other.•Works diligently: This role does not follow a normal 9-5 schedule. The Location Manager has to be prepared to be responsive whenever problems arise and not quit until things are in working order again. •Culturally sensitive: the ideal candidate will have extensive local knowledge and contacts, speak both English and Spanish fluently in order maintain local partnerships, and be able to successfully mediate cultural differences between partners and the company.
The Location Manager will have a wide range of responsibilities in the operations and coordination of this month, that include but are not limited to:
•Provide diligent coordination between our accommodation vendor and our clients, making sure our clients are consistently comfortable and happy•Provide diligent coordination between our coworking vendor and our clients, making sure our clients are consistently connected and happy•Help execute regular events at our coworking space and around Medellín with event partners, schedule and coordinate these events with our clients, and provide useful information on transportation to events•Support the EL in logistics like key drop-off, check in and check out, gathering supplies, space setup, etc. •Solve or make recommendations to clients when problems come up related to accommodations, transportation, events, travel, illness, etc.•Arrange the space and set up our needs for all of our activities, workshops, and classes•Serve clients as a local guide, making arrangements, suggestions on things to do, where to go and not to go, etc.
The candidate will join the team by Aug 1, and will begin with training for the first few days before clients arrive. Beginning on August 1, more in-person time will be required working with the team on the ground to set up for the group to arrive. The role is part-time during this preparatory stage, with the expectation that the candidate will put in the time required to meet the deadlines outlined.
Starting on August 3, the first full program begins and the position will continue as a part-time position shadowing the outgoing LM and supporting the onsite team, but with more engagement with participants. Expect the 3-5 days preceding arrival and the first week after the clients arrive to be demanding in the time and effort it takes to get everyone settled into their apartments.
Throughout the month, the Location Manager is not expected to be on hand 24/7, but is expected to be present to help prepare, set up, execute and clean up after all Unsettled activities, as well as be responsive to EL and client needs outside of normal working hours.
The position is set up with a shadowing/training period in August and transition to fully handoff the responsibilities of Location Manager for the second month of new clients coming from September 1, during which time the hours will increase to full-time, and will pay a salary of 2.5M COP for the experience in September. Some transportation and meals will be reimbursed when they come during work events and a receipt is provided.
The position will be structured as an independent contractor to Unsettled. The position will pay competitive local rates.
While this position can be demanding, the candidate will work in a very friendly and informal environment and will likely form meaningful relationships with dynamic people from all over the world.
